President Duterte to craft a law that will require students to enlist in military service if ROTC not implemented
President Rodrigo Duterte believes that the time has come to bring back the controversial ‘Reserve Officer Training Corps’ program of the Philippine government or if it’s not implemented, he will craft a law to require all the younger people to enlist in Military Service.
In his speech during the opening ceremony of the 2017 Palarong Panbasa at Biniyaran Sports Complex in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique Proince on April 23, President Duterte explained how helpful is the ROTC to the future generation.
He believes that people who completed their ROTC course can help the civilians during the times of chaos and anarchy.
During the ROTC training, the student will be taught how to handle guns, mortar and other weapons to protect the innocent civilians.
Duterte also narrated how the ROTC was ‘scrapped entirely’ because of an incident where two students from University of Sto. Tomas were killed. He believes that the decision to remove the ROTC because of that incident is ‘short-sighted’
The President also told the people who opposed the reimposing of the ROTC to choose if the government will only revive the program or he will craft a law to require all the students to enlist in military service just like Israel and South Korea.
