Senator Risa Hontiveros, one of the most vocal critics of the war against illegal drugs together with several cameraman and journalist visited the wake of Kian Loyd Delos Santos on Saturday to talk to the parents of the alleged victim of extrajudicial killing.
News5 posted some of the photos taken during the visit of Hontiveros in the wake of the 17 year old senior high school student who died during the anti-illegal drug operation conducted by Caloocan PNP.
The photos showed the Senator, talking to the parents of Kian Loyd while the other photo showed a relative of the 17 year old boy crying in front of the casket of Delos Santos.
In her official Facebook fanpage, Hontiveros also released a statement on the death of Kian Loyd.
Hontiveros expressed her condolences to the family of the 17 year old boy.
She also expressed her sadness that a loving boy like Kian Loyd was killed became a victim of another alleged abuse of the authority in the form of war against illegal drugs.
After talking to the parents of Kian Loyd, Hontiveros urged the government to conduct an independent and impartial investigation not only for the case of the Delos Santos, but also to all the alleged people who got killed during the war against illegal drugs.
She also vowed to provide all the protection and legal services needed by the family of Kian and to all the witness who can prove that the members of the Caloocan PNP committed a violence during the anti-illegal drug operation that they conducted.
“Pinatay dahil nanlaban? Puwes, tayo ngayon ay lalaban,” she said.
This is her full statement:
I am here to accord full protection and security to the family and to the witnesses, to provide whatever legal service is needed. We will unearth the truth. We will fight for justice for Kian, and for those whose lives were abruptly ended by this abusive and corrupt war-on-drugs. This ends here.
But some netizen who criticized Hontiveros questioned the motive of the lady senator’ visit in the wake of the alleged drug courier.
Esguerra Mijares Gilbert, asked why Hontiveros have some time to visit the wake of Kian, while she even didn’t visited the wake of the victims of Bulacan Massacre.
Another netizen, Lanuza Belle, blasted Hontiveros for not giving any sympathy to the victims of criminals and to the PNP and AFP who got killed for doing their duty.
She said that Hontiveros must prioritized the people who died for defending the country.
