Customs Broker Mark Taguba, apologizes to VM Pulong Duterte, Atty. Carpio and clear their names, slams fake news spread on social media
Customs Broker Mark Taguba, one of the witnesses of the P6.4-B worth of shabu shipment from China that surpassed the Bureau of Customs apologized to Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte and Attorney Mans Carpio, husband of Mayor Inday Sara Duterte for mentioning their names during the past senate hearing.
He also labeled the reports circulating on social media that used his statements to implicate Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte and Atty. Mans Carpio in the shabu shipment from China as ‘fake news’
“I had never testified, nor will I ever testify that Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and/or Atty. Manse Carpio were involved in the shipment of illegal drugs into the country. Neither have I testified, nor will I ever testify that the aforementioned individuals were involved in the “tara system” that was in-place at the Bureau of Customs,” Taguba said in a press release.
The names of Vice Mayor Duterte and/or Atty. Manse Carpio were merely mentioned by the “Davao Group” whose direct contacts to me were ‘Tita Nannie’ and ‘Jack’. As I had repeatedly stated before Congress and the Senate, the alleged involvement of the aforementioned individuals are hearsay in nature,” he added.
He also clarified that he didn’t meet Duterte or Carpio in personal to talk about illegal transactions in Customs.
“At no time have I met either Vice Mayor Duterte or Atty. Carpio in person, much less discuss any illegal transaction at the Bureau of Customs with them,” he said.
To this day, I contest that the container that my company caused to be released on May 24, 2017 contained the 605 kilograms of shabu. As I have repeatedly testified, the contents of the container (otherwise known as the “packing list”) which was duly certified to be correct by the port of Xiamen under the ASEAN-China free trade agreement will reflect that it only contained general household items and not the five (5) cylinders where the shabu was discovered,” he added.
He apologized to Duterte and Carpio for his statements that made them look like that they were involved in illegal activities in BOC.
Senators Gordon and Sotto said that Taguba must present a solid evidence before Trillanes could demand Duterte and Carpio’s presence in the next hearings.
During the senate hearing on the P6.4-B shabu shipment, Taguba mentioned the names ‘Pulong’ and ‘Mance’ that made Senator Antonio Trillanes IV to urge the senate to invite VM Duterte and Atty. Carpio in the next senate hearing which blocked by Senator Gordon.
Tension rose between the Blue Ribbon Committee chair Gordon and Senator Trillanes while they debated if Pulong Duterte and Carpio must be invited in the senate.
According to Taguba’s text conversation with Tita Nanu, Taguba mentioned the names of “Mans” and P” and when asked by Trillanes, he revealed them as supposedly Atty. Mans Carpio and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte.
“At this point, Mr. Chairman, I believe we have enough information that would warrant the invitation for both Atty. Mans Carpio and Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte to this commitee hearing. I heard the majority leader say that it’s hearsay.” Trillanes said.
“Hindi ito korte huh. This is an investigative body, we’re just establishing the truth. We’re ferreting out the truth. Let them defend themselvs. Wag muna tayo mag abogado sa kanila,” Trillanes added.
Trillanes statement made him clashed with Sotto and Gordon during the hearing.
Renowned broadcaster Karen Davila also urged Paolo Duterte to attend the hearing because Mark Taguba mentioned the name of the Vice Mayor during the hearing.
“Kahit po public official o ordinaryong tao, pantay pantay kami, hindi po porket miyembro ng first family eh hindi niyo ipapatawag, yan po ang opinyon ng isang tax payer na tulad ko, sana po patas po.. ipatawag niyo lahat ng binabangit under oath sa senado.. walang takot yan” Davila said during her radio program.
